LG Ladakh announces region’s big achievement on large ponds. LG Saxena in a post on X, said, “With immense delight and satisfaction, I share that all four large ponds, constructed under Project Him Sarovar at Spituk Farka in Leh, have now been filled with glacier meltwater, in a record time of just 5 months. The works on construction of the four large ponds started on 10 April 2026, and concluded with recharge and operationalization of the 4th pond on 9th September. ● Pond No. 1 inaugurated on 21st June ● Pond No. 2 filled on 19th July ● Pond No. 3 filled on 24th August ● Pond No. 4 filled on 9th September Each pond, measuring 60m × 40m × 2m, is designed to store approx. 60 lakh litres of glacier meltwater, thereby storing nearly 24 million litres of precious water, and preventing them from going waste and creating a new command area of nearly 1000 acres. Importantly, these ponds are being directly replenished by glacier meltwater from the Stok glacier stream, whose seasonal flows were diverted into the Igoo-Phey Canal, feeding into these reservoirs. This diversion ensures that huge volumes of water, earlier wasted, are now conserved for irrigation, ecological restoration, and long-term water security. This achievement reflects our Administration’s unwavering commitment to environmental resilience, agricultural revival, and sustainable water security in Ladakh’s cold desert.”
