Oct 30, 2022 : Meenal Gupta , a leading chess player from J&K has won best woman award at chess championship in Thailand.
2 Times commonwealth Medalist and number one FIDE rated woman player of J&K won 3rd best woman award in strong 20th BCC open chess championship in open division held here at Chiang Mai, Thailand from 22 – 30 October,2022. She defeated two FIDE Masters and drew with one Woman international master to win the coveted prize.
She got cash prize equivalent to Rs.40000/- INR and Achievement certificate.
It was her best performance after a long time after 3 years. All the three prize winners among women tied on same 5.5 points and prize was decided by Latest FIDE tie breaker rules in which score of opponents are counted.
She defeated players from England, Italy, Nigeria and Thailand while drew with Malasian player.
