Jammu, March 16 PDP chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, during her visit to the border town of Poonch , visited Navgrah temple where she offered prayers and offered ritualistic “ jal” or water on Shivlingam , which left many in awe.
In a widely viral video , Mehbooba’ is seen going around the temple, pausing before several ancient pantings before stopping and praying before “ Shivlingam”, an icon of Lord Shiva . She also offered “ jal” a the Shivlingam.
This left many in awe as in the eyes of the most people, she is a hardcore Islamist , who preaches and talks stridently about Muslims and their rights . They started circulating the vide for two purposes, one of course , was to show that she had bowed before the Hindu gods , and others to drive a political mileage out of it.
It was a message to all those who used to question her credentials , and always bracketed as leader for Muslims” only . It also dealt a blow to the BJP that had been castigating the PDP and its leader , held them responsible for anti-Hindu and anti-national narrative in Kashmir.
Mehbooba Mufti, daughter of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who was a veteran Congress leader before he founded his party-People’s Democratic Party or PDP in July 1999- had been visiting the Hindu religious places and shrines. During her college days in Jammu, she had visited Vaishno Devi shrine at least twice .
But given her visit to the temple in Poonch at this point in time , would evoke many narratives .
One of the netizens and known for her very radical views , and pronounced anti-Mehbooba and anti-PDP , wondered “ Really”.
