New Delhi, December 04: The Ministry of Home Affairs today constituted a high level of panel to study and deliberate on the constitutional safeguards for the people of Ladakh region.
Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai will be heading the panel, which was constituted after the MHA held a meeting with leaders of Ladakh.
The panel will study feasibility of the demands raised by the leaders of Leh and Kargil.
( i )Measures to protect the Ladakh region’s unique culture and language taking into consideration its geographical location and its strategic importance
(ii) To ensure protection of land and employment,
(iii) Measures for inclusive development and employment generation in the region,
(iv) Measures related to empowerment of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils (LAHDCs) of Leh and Kargil and
(v) Constitutional safeguards that could be provided to ensure the measures and protection as mentioned above.
Earlier, the meeting was held between the minister and leaders of Ladakh.

meeting of High Powered Committee (HPC) for Ladakh, under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai held in New Delhi today. Apex Body Leh (ABL) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) also participated in the meeting.
