About the National Panchayat Awards

To recognize and incentivize best-performing Panchayats, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj annually confers the National Panchayat Awards, promoting inclusive, participatory, and sustainable development in rural India. Institutionalized under the Incentivization of Panchayats component of the revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), the awards encourage Panchayats to improve local governance, service delivery, and progress towards Sustainable Development Goals through community-led initiatives. In 2023, the awards framework was revamped and aligned with the nine themes of Localization of SDGs (LSDGs), making assessment more holistic, transparent and data-driven, further reinforcing Panchayats’ role in translating national priorities into impactful grassroots action towards Viksit Bharat@2047.
