It is exactly a week after Gen. Asim Munir raked up two -nation theory projecting Hindus versus Muslim nations and calling Kashmir aa Pakistan’s “ jugular vein” that more than two dozen tourists were killed in a terror attack in Kashmir’s popular tourist resort Pahalgam on Tuesday . Gen. Munir had delivered his most provocative speech against Hindus, filled with anti-India rants on last Tuesday ( April 15, 2025) to the overseas Pakistanis in Islamabad exhorting them to bequeath story of Pakistan as a Muslim nation as the community was superior to the Hindus .
The speech was seen as usual rhetoric of the Army General, who is caught in a crossfire of Pakistani politics , but there was an inkling of his mischievous plans in Kashmir to cause loss to the people who had rejected everything that Pakistan represented – violent extremism, terrorism, economic distress , hunger and poverty .
With the terror attack in the serene and beautiful Valley of Pahalgam , one of the most favourite tourist resorts for visitors , Pakistan has shown that its belief in cross-border terrorism is undiminished and it has learnt no lessons from its past misadventures.
This attack came at a time when the US Vice President J D Vance is on a four-day visit of India, and during his speech in Jaipur on Tuesday he stated quite categorically that President Trump wants India and the US to build a new future together. He was all praise for Prime Minister Modi and his role in correcting the fault lines across the globe .
Terrorists opened fire at the tourists , most of them Hindus from various states of the country, at a time when the Saudi Government rolled out red carpet welcome for Prime Minister Modi in Jeddah. There is a big conspiracy at work behind the attack, the impact of which would be felt both within the country and abroad . Pakistan wanted to place Kashmir at the centre and front of the international attention .
What cannot be dismissed is that this attack, despite commendable gestures of the locals in rescuing the tourists and taking the injured to hospitals, will have impact on the psyche of the tourists and would be visitors . Pakistani terrorists wanted to strike at the roots of the growing tourism industry ,as that was taking Kashmiri youth to the positive direction. The revival of the tourism to the heights that they had not anticipated for long time , had enriched their economy and taken the youth to positive understanding of the situation . They were refusing to fall into propaganda from across the border and refusing to pick up guns and stones. They saw their happiness and future in the peace ushered in by the abrogation of Article 370 .
It had hurt Pakistan, because tourism boom, which is expected to touch 30 millions , despite this attack,, had neutralized all the negatives exported from across the border. Not only Pakistan tried to suffocate tourism, but also wanted to trigger political and communal tensions in the Union Territory, taking advantage of the anger in some sections over the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 .
It is time to understand and defeat cross-border terrorism. And, the people know that the Modi government would inflict defeat on the perpetrators of the heinous act . That’s why Prime Minister expressed anguish over the terror attack and made it a point to depute Home Minister to Srinagar to undertake an on-the spot assessment.
Terrorists are on run and soon they would be punished . This message is very loud and clear . Today Pakistani terrorists , acting at the behest of their mentors across the border. They cannot esca[e the consequences of their act for long .
