JK News Today Commentary
Pakistan has intensified its mischief in Jammu and Kashmir , seeking revenge from the people who voted overwhelmingly in the recently concluded Assembly elections . It has refused to learn lessons from the past – the people voted not only for the government of their own , they also messaged Islamabad- Rawalpindi that they have rejected militancy and all the propaganda that Pakistan exported to this side of the Line of Control for over three decades.
Perhaps Pakistan has not read writing on the wall as it continued with its attempts of unleashing terror on the masses on Kashmiris – punishing them for making elections successful and credible to which the world is a witness . The game is old but the dynamics are new . In 1980s, when it pushed the terrorists and the idea of armed militancy as part of the “ struggle to their right of self-determination” as per the UN resolutions on Kashmir , today it is putting forward the idea that elections have not settled the issue for which they had fought all along . From 1980s to early 2000s , Pakistan succeeded with the help of ecosystem that it had constructed , but now after facing rejection , it is seeking to inflict fear among the people . It is a sinister attempt to hostage stage people to fear , without realizing that the whole concept and landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, in particular that of the Valley , have changed . They are determined to continue with their philosophy of peace and optimism .
It is first time that the people in Kashmir have tasted both peace and democracy due to the strenuous efforts of the Central government of Prime Minister Modi that invested quite heavily in changing the thought , language and landscape of Kashmir . They have seen Himalayan- high opportunities and roads to peace visiting them at their doorsteps. Home Minister Amit Shah has monitored the situation on day-to-day basis and done everything needed to push forward the idea and practice of peace and progress in the lives of J&K people . Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, on his part, not only served the people as their lieutenant but added pillars to rebuild structure of development and peace .
Pakistan is a master in double-speak . It poses as a “friend of the people of Jammu and Kashmir” and what it does is exactly the opposite. . It also vows to have friendly ties with India with round the clock claim that it is willing to walk extra mile , but when it comes to translating words into actions , it resorts to terrorism .
Ever since the formation of the Jammu and Kashmir government under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on October 16, Pakistan sponsored terrorists have targeted civilians and soldiers from October 20 onwards – 13 people have been killed in the Valley , and few more injured in such attacks . On October 28 morning , terrorists fired at an army vehicle in Sunderbani sector in their attempt to convey that they are present and retain the capability of targeting even the soldiers and their vehicles.
Pakistan is attempting to convey a multiple of messages by orchestrating these attacks , targeting civilians and soldiers , that the elections in J&K were not a guarantee for peace in the region , levers of controlling violence or otherwise were with it , and also a crude attempt to delegitimize the vote and its verdict .Alongside , Pakistan is pushing a narrative that the government is helpless as it cannot guarantee safety and security of voters . Its bid to push the elected government to corner is also aimed at drawing a platform of confrontation with the Centre . Such situations , which Pakistan has always been working at , only serve purpose of the disruptive forces as a result of which the genuine political, economic and social aspirations expressed through vote slide into cold storage
This game of Pakistan needs to be understood thoroughly if peace and development is to be saved for J&K of tomorrow.
