JAMMU, September 12:

Press Club Jammu (PCJ) hailed decision of the State Administrative Council (SAC) headed by Governor Satya Pal Malik to extend Group Mediclaim Health Insurance Scheme to the journalists working in the state.
In an emergent meeting, executive committee of the PCJ hailed Governor Satya Pal Malik for fulfilling long pending demand of the working journalists of J&K.
Speaking on the occasion, president of PCJ Ashwani Kumar recalled that they have repeatedly brought this issue to the notice of successive state governments. “Journalists in J&K are working in very hostile conditions”, he said and observed that this step of the government would provide a big relief to them. He hoped this policy would also be extended to all working journalists.
Ashwani Kumar further mentioned that neighbouring states like Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan, a comprehensive policy has been implemented for journalists but there is no welfare policy for journalists in J&K despite the fact journalists in this part of the country are working in hostile conditions.
In a significant decision, JK Government today extended Group Mediclaim Health Insurance Scheme to the Accredited Journalists in the State. Under the Scheme an Accredited Journalist plus 5 members of his/her family would be covered under a health insurance cover of Rs 6 lakh per annum at the yearly premium as admissible to the State Government employees. The insured Journalist can avail cashless out-patient & in-patient health facilities at around 4700 recognized hospitals, within and outside the State.
