Jammu, December  27

Jammu, December  27 ( JKNT ) PDP , the leading partner in the coalition  government with BJP  in Jammu and Kashmir is opposed to the grant of the  domicile certificate  to the West Pakistan Refugees and it may stop the process of issuance of the  Identity Cards  to  WPRs.

PDP leaders have been weighing  impact of the  issuance of the ID cards  to West Pakistan Refugees in the Valley where are all  separatists and mainstream parties have risen  up  in arms against this move of the government , apparently taken after the  pressure from the ministry of  home affairs .

Sources in the party said that either the party would try to stall this process, which intends to grant identity so badly required by the  WPRs to find hobs in the armed forces , or it would join the chorus with National Conference, CPI-M, Awami Iteehad Party and others in “ condemning this assault on the  special status of the state.”.

The ruling party from Kashmir is facing the  heat  after separatists raised the ante  and threatened  agitation .

A hint of this appeared when the separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq  took out a protest procession . This had the blessings of the government, which not long ago had kept the  chief cleric of Kashmir   under  house arrest.  PDP legislators are finding it difficult  to justify the issuance of the ID to WPRs in their constituencies and among their own  party cadre.

“ We will oppose the domicile certificate to WPRs in the Assembly,” a senior lawmaker told the party workers in Anantnag . “ Even  if it means  that the PDP would have to join the opposition in protest, we will stand by them,” the lawmaker was quoted by a  source.
