Hundreds of Sikh faithfuls today took out a Nagar Kirtan before birth anniversary of their religious founder Guru Nanak Dev ji.
Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was born in 1469 in Talwandi, a village in the Sheikhupura district, 65 kms. west of Lahore. His father was a village official in the local revenue administration. As a boy, Sri Guru Nanak learnt, besides the regional languages, Persian and Arabic.
Besides elders, children too participated in the procession which was taken out amidst tight security. The participants were singing and reciting Gurbani from Guru Granth Sahib — holy book of Sikhs which is revered as Guru.
Guru Granth Sahib in a palki was the main attraction of the Nagar Kirtan
Panj Piyaras (Five Beloveds) of the Guru were also part of the religious procession.
