Jammu, June 09 :

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and  Home Minister Amit Shah  are scheduled to meet Thursday morning  in which  a decision is likely to be taken regarding the conduct of the Amarnath yatra 2021 amidst the backdrop of declining Covid-19 cases and the caution suggested by health experts.

The informed sources said that the Home Ministry has gathered all the inputs regarding the situation in Jammu  and Kashmir  with regard to security and also the data about the covid cases. For the past few days, the number of cases has come down to three digits in the Union  Territory as against 5,000 pls last month .

Further inputs were  shared by Lieutenant Governor  Manoj Sinha and important functionaries of J&K in their meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah  on Monday in which a detailed discussion was held on all matters , including expediting the work of the Delimitation Commission, and  Amarnath Yatra.

The route to the  cave shrine of Amarnath where , as the myth goes, Lord Shiva had narrated the tale of immortality to  his  consort Parvati from Baltal side  has been  cleared of snow, while the work is going on the traditional route from Pahalgam to the shrine.  Some work remains to be  done   at  Panctarni  that is just 6 kms  short of the shrine.

Health experts, however, have suggested that pilgrimage should be opened only for those pilgrims and service providers  who have had two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. They have warned any laxity on this count .

It is understood that all these  suggestions would be taken into account  while taking a decision on the yatra, that was not held last year due to the pandemic of coronavirus
