Srinagar, November 1:
A search operation is underway in Ajar area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after militants and security forces exchanged gunfire in morning hours.
Official sources said after receiving an input about the presence of two militants at 6:30 am, security forces including army’s 14 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 7 Para and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Police cordoned off Ajar area of Bandipora.
As security men launched searches, two militants hiding in a residential house opened fire on search parties, triggering an encounter. The exchange of fire between the two sides continued for nearly two hours.
Sources said the militants are believed to have escaped from the house by breaking cordon of security forces. With no fresh exchange of fire between militants and security forces taking place in the area, a search operation was launched by army and SOG to hunt down the militants, which was going on when this report was being filed.
There was no injury to anyone in the exchange of gunfire.
