JAMMU OCTOBER 27: Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU) and Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu organized one day “Signature Campaign” on “Safe and Healthy Diwali” in the University Campus on Wednesday.
The campaign was organized in order to sensitize the students, staff and outsiders regarding the importance of celebrating eco-friendly and pollution free Diwali. More than 15 GCTF volunteers comprising of representatives from various University departments along with about 85 GCTF volunteers from Department of Environmental Sciences comprising of students, research scholars and faculty members participated in the campaign. The volunteers of GCTF-JU also interacted with the students, scholars, staff of the University and the outsiders and motivated them to use environmentally safe ways and means of celebrating Diwali. The adverse effects of using fire crackers on the air quality and human health were highlighted and displayed using display boards, posters and slogans prepared by students and scholars of Department of Environmental Sciences.
The campaign was flagged off by Prof. A.K. Raina, Convener, AOG-GCTF and Deepika Slathia was the teacher in-charge for the campaign. The faculty members who participated in the event included Prof. R.K. Rampal, Sanjay Sharma, Piyush Malaviya and Meenakshi Khajuria.
