President Donald Trump built a mythical structure , in which he echoed his voice that Washington played a key role in getting India and Pakistan to agree to a full and immediate ceasefire on May 10th, ending military action from both the sides, and that edifice collapsed on Tuesday – Mau 13, 2025. The Indian ministry of external affairs placed the real truth and facts before the world media, leaving no room for any conjectures that Washington has sought to play out in the past few days.
The fact of the matter is that India obliged Pakistan on the afternoon of May 10th after the latter requested for ceasefire against the backdrop of devastation that it suffered at the hands of Indian strikes at its airbases and other military assets on the morning of May 10th.
Three things became clear , during the media briefing held by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Tuesday – ( a ) it was Indian decision to accept the ceasefire request made by Pakistan,, no other nation was involved in the process and the conclusion of the understanding to cease military action between India and Pakistan, ( b) Indian position on Kashmir was unchanged and Pakistan will have to stay away from the red line drawn by India on terrorism , ( c) there was neither talk of trade or nuclear war in the conversations with the world leaders, including President Trump.
On May 10th, President Trump announced through his social media handle that the US had persuaded India and Pakistan to go in for a full and immediate ceasefire , creating a perception that it was he, his team -Vice President J D Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio , had worked to bring about ceasefire between the two countries . In his subsequent tweets, he mentioned Kashmir and also potential nuclear clash between the two countries which could have killed millions of people.
When asked about all these claims, including the one related to Trump saying that he used trade as a level to bring the two countries to agree to ceasefire, the MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal gave a very categorical answer during his media briefing on Tuesday- May 13, 2025.
“We have a longstanding national position that any issues pertaining to the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have to be addressed by India and Pakistan bilaterally. That stated policy has not changed. As you are aware, the outstanding matter is the vacation of illegally occupied Indian territory by Pakistan.”
There could not have been more categorical answer to this question. Trump’s claim that he would be helping the two nations to find a solution to Kashmir issue blew up as India made it clear that it is having its own independent policy on Kashmir and what particular issue it wanted to touch during talks with Pakistan- the vacation of Pakistan occupied Kashmir, that because of the instrument of accession signed by Maharaja Hari Singh on October 26, 1947, belongs to Jammu and Kashmir which is integral part of the Indian union.
Regarding President’s Trump’s claim that the US played a role in brokering ceasefire, the MEA spokesperson gave exact time line of May 10th , starting from a call t by Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to MEA followed by DGMOs talks on ceasefire. The time line was self-speaking in which Trump’s claim found automatic rebuff.
As for the potential for the nuclear clash was concerned, the spokesperson made it clear that Pakistan itself had denied it. All the myths projected by America have crashed like house of cards
