Jammu, March 10: The government is likely to constitute a panel to shortlist names of prospective candidates for to be appointed as election commissioners. The panel’s candidates will be scrutinised by three member committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and one minister and leader of the opposition.
The need to appoint two election commissioners has arisen following the sudden resignation of the election commissioner Arun Goel on Saturday. One of the members of the ECI Anup Chander Pandey had retired in February.
