Jammu, March 21: There is good news for MBBS aspirants of Jammu and Kashmir as national medical council (NMC) has approved 100 seats each for two new Government Medical Colleges at Udhampur and Handwara.

The order in this regard was issued today by the NMC for the approval.

With this order Jammu and Kashmir will get 200 more MBBS seats from the upcoming academic session of 2023-24. This will further give opportunity to aspirants who want to get admitted in MBBS and build their career in the medical field.

NMC has kept a rider on these seats and have asked the department of health and medical education to appoint teaching and non-teaching staff and other requirements.

The approval was given after an undertaking by the secretary health and medical education department and a formal order will be issued by the NMC later.

Earlier, during UPA-2 regime, five new medical colleges were approved and the NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi made all the five colleges functional. Now, Modi government has given two more medical colleges and it will further give a boost to health infrastructure.
