JAMMU, September 19: The University of Jammu organized a very impressive Youth Parliament Programme today at Gen. Zorawar Singh Auditorium. The programme was conducted under the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India to strengthen the roots of democracy, to inculcate the habit of discipline and to enable the student community to understand the working of our parliamentary institutions.

Shamsher Singh Manhas, Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha J&K was the Chief Guest and Chief Jury Member. Prof. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST was the academician and Jury Member and S. P. Singh, Registrar Chanakya Law University was the Group Coordinator and Savita Nayyar was the coordinator of 13th National Youth Parliament Competition 2016.

Shamsher Singh Manhas, MP complemented the students on successfully portraying the replica of the parliament for its better understanding by the students at University level, he also provided the insight about the proceedings of the parliament. He asserted that the visionary and aware citizens have the power to take the Nation forward on the path of progress.

Prof. R.D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu expressed his gladness over the brilliant performance of the students. Prof. Sharma also appreciated the hard work put in by  the students and coordinators behind the successful completion of this competition of vast importance.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Pradeep K. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST and Dr. S. P. Singh, Registrar Chanakya Law University complemented for the selection of the topics in discussion. Different proceedings of the parliament like Oath taking, Obituary Reference, Introduction of New Ministers, Question Hour, Breach of Privilege, Papers laid, Message from Upper Chamber, Welcoming Foreign Delegates, Calling Attention Motion and Legislative Business were very effectively presented by the students of different departments of the University of Jammu within 55 minutes.

Earlier in her welcome address, Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students welfare apprised the gathering about the idea behind conducting such programmes. She informed that the Department of Students Welfare is always proactive wherever welfare of the students and positive channelizing of their energies is involved.

Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Chairman Campus Cultural Committee explained the event in detail.

The six students who got selected for the awards were Deepika Badyal, Puneet Kour, Kartika Bakshi, Vanshika Jamwal, Nitin Sharma, Deepak Sharma. The event was conducted by Dr. Savita Nayyar.

The event was organized by Department of Students Welfare.The students who participated in the Youth Parliament event included Kartika Bakshi, Mohd. Afzal, Deepika Badyal, Shradha Upadyaya, Vikas Bhadoria, Chandrika Sharma, Parul Sahi, Zirgham Hamid, Oshin Bakshi, Sunil Sharma, Aman Slathia, Harsh Sharma, Abhinandan Sharma, Sonam Prashar, Nitan Sharma, Ankita Chopra, Rahat Afridi, Vanshika Jamwal, Rameshwar Padha, Rakesh Kumar, Sonam Dubey, Shubham Sharma, Savita Sharma, Atek Saba, Iram Saba, Riya Mahajan, Ankush Sharma, Vishal Sharma, Nosheen Akhter, Akshay Kumar, Nar Narayan Mahadev Singh Jasrotia, Parshottam Singh, Shivali Chib, Pankaj Sharma, Dildar Ahmed, Shafiq Ahmed, Touqeer Haider, Sanveer Singh, Sahil Sangra. Prof. S.k. Pandita, Co-Chairman Campus Cultural Committee presented the formal vote of thanks. The event was witnessed by faculty members, members of Campus Cultural Committee, staff and students of the University of Jammu. Sumeet Sharma and Ifra Kak managed the event under the guidance of Anupama Vohra,  Parmil Kumar and A.R. Manhas, Kulbhushan Thakur, Suraj Ganjoo, Ajay Sharma, Monisha Mehra and Abhishek looked after the backstage management.
