Leh: Former Chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, has made a heartfelt appeal to education reformer and social activist Sonam Wangchuk, urging him to reconsider and conclude his ongoing fast in the interest of his health and the larger public good.
In a message marked by respect and concern, Adv. Gyalson acknowledged Sonam Wangchuk’s long-standing commitment to public causes, transparency, and accountability. However, he stressed that preserving the health and well-being of a public figure who has contributed significantly to national discourse is of paramount importance.
“I humbly appeal to you to kindly reconsider your decision to continue the fast. While I fully acknowledge and respect your commitment to public causes, as well as your steadfast advocacy for transparency and accountability, I believe there is merit in reassessing the present course,” he stated.
Adv. Gyalson noted that the Government of India has already initiated several reforms aimed at addressing public concerns, particularly in strengthening transparency and preventing examination-related irregularities such as paper leaks. According to him, these measures reflect a broader commitment towards safeguarding public interest and reinforcing institutional trust.
He expressed the view that with reforms already underway, the current moment presents an opportunity for constructive engagement rather than prolonged protest. He said meaningful dialogue between stakeholders remains the most effective path towards resolving outstanding issues.
Appealing for a positive resolution, Adv. Gyalson urged Sonam Wangchuk to conclude the fast and allow democratic processes and structured discussions to continue.
The appeal comes amid growing concern from various quarters over the health implications of prolonged fasting and renewed calls for constructive engagement on issues concerning Ladakh and national public policy.
