Jammu, July 9:

The disengagement of Chinese and Indian troops is going in Eastern Ladakh where a tense standoff beginning May this year had set up hostile situation between the two nuclear armed neighbours.

The situation is “stable” as of now, according to Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian. This is the confirmation that the things have started moving in the direction in which Indian NSA Ajit Doval had worked out while talking to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday.

Once Doval took over the negotiations, things have started moving rapidly. Now, the new rounds of talks of the army commanders and diplomats have been scheduled. The talks will resume at the army commanders’ level as also between the diplomats from tomorrow.?

Zhao Lijian said that “following the consensus reached at the commander-level talks, the Chinese and India border troops have been taking effective measures to disengage at Galwan Valley and other areas in the western sector.”

“The overall situation at the China-India boundary is stable and ameliorating,” Lijian said and added “The two sides will continue to maintain dialogue and communication through military and diplomatic channels, including holding a new round of commander-level talks and the meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs. “

He also observed: “We hope India will work with China towards the same goal to implement consensus reached between the two sides with concrete actions and jointly de-escalate tensions in the border region.”
