Bhaderwah December 11: The Bhaderwah Campus University of the Jammu Celebrated the International Mountain Day in the Campus today. Around two hundred students of School of Education along with the Faculty Members participated in the Day Long activities in the Campus. On this occasion, Professor Renu Nanda, Head Department of Education, University of Jammu was also present.

Professor G.M.  Bhat, Rector Bhaderwah Campus University of Jammu formally introduced the students and Faculty Members of School of Education and other Faculty Members about the significance of  December 11, 2016 as International Mountain Day. Prof. Bhat laid emphasis on the development and Implementation of the various strategies for the Protection of Environment and Sustainable Tourism.

Prof. Bhat also revealed that the International Mountain Day was adopted by the UNO in 2003 and the theme for this year is “Preservation of Mountain Culture”.

Syed Aijaz Ahmad of The Business School gave a presentation on the importance of International Mountain Day in the Lad Ded Auditorium of the Campus, which was followed by various student activities.

The Students were divided into six groups headed by the Faculty Members of the School of Education. The Student Groups were headed by  Shazia Zargar,  Aysha Zakir, Jyoti Rothere, Renu, Rashi Abrol and Imtiyaz Butt. The Student activities included group discussions, brain storming, skits, folk dances, folk songs, debates, script writings related to Mountains, Mountain Environment, sustainable development and awareness of the preservation of  Mountain Environment, Cultural Heritage, Biodiversity etc. were closely monitored by Prof. Renu Nanda Head Department of Education,  University of Jammu.

The Student Groups also gave their thematic presentations in the lawns of Bhaderwah Campus based on constructivist approach. They Proposed out of box solutions to the problems. It was ensured by the Faculty Members heading the groups that all the students get a chance to participate as well display their hidden talent.   This was followed by presentations and feedback. This enterprising initiative taken by the faculty Members and students of the school of Education of Bhaderwah Campus was appreciated and enjoyed by the participants. Finally all participants took a pledge to dedicate themselves, their families, relatives and friends to join the march to save, preserve and protect mountains in their surroundings. All the activities were captured by technical committee viz. Haris Riaz and Abrar Ali Sheikh from the Department of Computer Science and IT of the Bhaderwah Campus.
