Despite conservative social norms in Jammu and Kashmir which sees dancing and modelling as domain of elites, some youth are still pursuing their passion to make mark in the entertainment and fashion field.

Though Jammu city does not have any high profile institutions to impart training to aspiring youngsters, but Nitin Sanotra a young dancer who founded a institute few years back is major destination for aspiring youth.

Youngsters are taking to this new trend in a big way to join the modern dance bandwagon to cash in on the demand.

From Zumba to Salsa, Bollywood to hip hop, youngsters are keen to learn new forms of modern dance, some of them even taking it up for the sake of fitness.

One such institute is Auspicious Dancing Club and Women Fitness Centre founded by a young dancer Nitin Sanotra is not only providing a platform but also creating awareness about the careers in entertainment industry.

“I am the owner, founder as well as the instructor of the institute and I feel very happy when I am able to bring out the hidden talent in people. From small children to young parents, we prepare everyone and our aim is to present the talent of Jammu at a national and international level”, Nitin.

Nitin has done his B.Com from Commerce College, Canal Road and M.Com from Jammu University had also taken part in several dance competitions giving him the confidence to impart training to aspirants.

“Since my school days I had interest in dancing and when I joined college, my friends and teachers saw my talent and encouraged me to start this dancing institute. I faced lot of problems during school days to learn basic steps of the trade and my aim was to ensure that people who want to lean are provided with a platform”, said Nitin.

Many of his students are also very much happy that they are able to learn basic steps and tit bits of trade. “It has been two years that I am learning different dance forms. Many youth are showing interest in the field but J&K does not have flourishing media industry like in Punjab and other state”, said Kehsav Mehra, one of the student of institute.

Reality shows have played a major role in popularising modern dance in the city. “My message for youngsters is that if you have passion, don’t hesitate to pursue your dream and keep faith in god. Parents should also not be restrictive about the interests of their children apart from studies”, said Surbhi Sharma, another student.
