Jammu University volunteered to be accredited and assessed by NAAC for the third time (Cycle III).
NAAC is an autonomous organisation which was established in 1994 by the UGC to assess and accredit institutions of higher learning. The Assessment and Accreditation is done by a Peer Team of eminent academicians and academic administrators. The NAAC Peer Team visited the University of Jammu from September 27-30, 2016 to assess and accredit the University by validating the Self Study Report submitted by the University.
In a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Executive Council of NAAC in Bangalore, University of Jammu has been awarded A+ grade (Cycle III 2009-2016) with CGPA of 3.51, thereby making the University a part of an elite group of A+ Institutions.
A function was organized by the University near the Fountain Plaza to celebrate this success. The function was attended by the faculty members, students, scholars, non teaching staff and non- gazetted staff.
Opening remarks about the University’s remarkable achievement were made by Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance, who expressed gratitude to each and every member of the University fraternity for their contribution and commitment. She attributed the success to personal and regular monitoring of NAAC Assessment process, by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. R.D.Sharma and to his commitment to strengthen the quality assurance system of the University.
Prof. Keshav Sharma, Registrar of the University began his speech by thanking the students in particular and highlighted the contribution made by all the internal stakeholders especially the faculty members which led to securing A+ grade. He emphasized that it is now time for the University fraternity to take pride in securing this coveted position. He attributed this achievement to the dynamic leadership provided by the Vice Chancellor.
Prof. Jigar Mohammad, Dean Research Studies also congratulated the University fraternity for this unique success, particularly in view of the geographical location of the University catering to the students from the remote and hilly areas. He reiterated that the students would benefit the most because of the A+ grade attained by the University.
In the end, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. R.D. Sharma congratulated and thanked one and all present on the occasion for this rare achievement and reminded everyone that this success is due to the unstinted hardwork and commitment shown by all. He emphasized that we cannot now rest on our laurels as the journey towards excellence has only begun. He further added that mantainence of this grade has further increased the responsibility of the University fraternity and only our good character, conduct and commitment can take us forward. Apart from the University fraternity, he lauded the efforts of the Alumni, parents, members of the civil society and other internal and external stakeholder groups, who from time to time have provided support and have contributed towards a better functioning of the University.
The University expressed its gratitude to N.N.Vohra, the Chancellor, University of Jammu; Mehbooba Mufti, the Pro-Chancellor, University of Jammu and Naeem Akhtar, the Education Minister, Govt. of J&K for their unstinted support and guidance in the academic progress and development of the University.
