In a significant step towards strengthening community led initiatives and improvising public services in Ladakh, the Tibetan Cooperative Society on Monday inaugurated the Lhasa Filling Station, a new petrol pump located near Maha Bodhi Road in Leh. The project is expected to benefit both local residents and travelers while reflecting the growing role of cooperative institutions in the region.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent leaders of the Tibetan Central Administration, local representatives and several dignitaries. The event was led by Honorable Supreme Justice Commissioner Yeshi Wangmo, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Dolma Tsering Teykhang, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Members of Parliament Choedak Gyatso and Tamo Gonpo Dhundup, Chief Representative Officer (CRO) Leh Tashi Dhondup, along with other guests.
Former Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of the BJP led LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, also attended the ceremony and was felicitated by the visiting dignitaries on behalf of the CRO Leh and the Tibetan Cooperative Society. He was presented with a Buddha statue in recognition of his support in establishing the cooperative filling station and for his continued contribution to the welfare of the Tibetan community in Ladakh during his tenure as Chief Executive Councillor.
The visiting delegation was welcomed by Local Justice Commissioner Pema Sangpo, Tibetan Cooperative Society President Karma Dorjee, Local Tibetan Assembly President Dhondup Tashi, Vice President Lobsang Nyendak, Executive Officer of the Tibetan Primary Health Care Centre Sonam Lhamtso, and other officials.
The newly inaugurated Lhasa Filling Station is expected to enhance fuel accessibility in the area while serving as a symbol of the Tibetan community’s cooperative spirit and its commitment to contributing to Ladakh’s development and public infrastructure.
