Former cricketer  turned politician Navjot Singh  Siddhu  today joined Congress after  meeting the party president Rahul Gandhi on  Sunday. This was  much awaited  development  after Siddu  quit BJP few months ago  for his marginalization  in the party affairs.

He is likely to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections in Punjab as Congress candidate , where the party is in a strong reckoning to challenge Akali Dal-BJP combine  that has been ruling the state for the past decade.

Navjot  Singh Siddhu had developed serious differences with the BJP when he was denied ticket  from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat in 2014 parliamentary  elections . The ticket was given to Arun Jaitley who lost the polls but was made  Finance  Minister  by Prime Minister Narendra  Modi..

Later, he  was  rehabilitated by BJP  in Rajya Sabha but he quit from the same  after few months.  Then started the  talk of  his joining  other parties, including  Aam Adami Party and  Congress. Finally, he decided to join Congress on Sunday. His wife has already joined Congress.
