A militant was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Wagoora Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar, police said on Wednesday.
The police said an unidentified terrorist was killed. Search going on. Further details shall follow,” said a spokesman on Twitter.
The gunfight broke out late last night after J&K Police and CRPF launched an operation in the area following inputs about the presence of militants there.
An official said that the hiding militants opened fire after the forces approached the suspected spot during the searches.
He said that the fire was retaliated, triggering an encounter. “All the exit and entrance points of the area have been sealed to prevent the militants from escaping,” he said.
