Dr S P Vaid has been appointed as new Director General of Jammu and Kashmir police with effect from January 1, 2017. His name was formally approved in the state cabinet meeting held here on Wednesday evening .
Vaid would be succeeding K. Rajendra Kumar , who retires after a long spell of service in Jammu and Kashmir where he held several critical positions .
It may be recalled that the JK NEWS on Tuesday was the first news portal to disclose that Special Director General S P Vaid would be the new DGP of Jammu and Kashmir police. This is the most important police position among all the DGPs in the country.
Vaid , brings with him a lot of experience of dealing with the challenging situation across the state . He was the first police officer who mooted the idea of the Village Defence Committees and took on the militants in a big way in several parts of the Valley in different position and handled most challenging situations as Inspector General of Police, Jammu and kept the region peaceful .
He was the first choice of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and she was able to get him the position that he deserved.
